We are seeking an experienced Senior Cyber Security Engineer to strengthen the security of our enterprise technology environment. The successful candidate will design, implement, operate, and continuously improve security controls across cloud, identity, endpoint, network, and business application platforms. This is a hands-on senior role requiring strong technical judgement, effective incident leadership, and the ability to partner with IT, engineering, risk, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain security controls across cloud, identity, endpoint, network, email, and SaaS environments.

  • Lead technical investigation, containment, remediation, and post-incident review for security events and incidents.

  • Engineer and optimise security platforms, including SIEM, EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, identity security, secure email, and cloud-native security tooling.

  • Develop detection rules, automation, playbooks, dashboards, and actionable security metrics.

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, prioritise remediation based on risk, and partner with system owners to resolve findings.

  • Review solution designs and changes for security risks, recommending practical controls aligned with business needs.

  • Support identity and access management, privileged access management, Zero Trust, conditional access, and least-privilege initiatives.

  • Contribute to security architecture, standards, procedures, technical documentation, and control assurance activities.

  • Work with third parties and internal stakeholders to assess technical security risks and validate remediation.

  • Mentor engineers and analysts, provide technical guidance, and promote secure engineering practices.

  • Participate in an on-call or incident escalation rota where required.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Typically 5+ years of experience in cyber security engineering, security operations, infrastructure security, or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrable experience implementing and operating enterprise security technologies in complex or distributed environments.

  • Strong knowledge of cloud security, preferably Microsoft Azure, including identity, logging, workload protection, and configuration management.

  • Experience with Enterprise level EDR/MDR solutions

  • Sound understanding of networking, Windows and Linux security, authentication protocols, APIs, scripting, and modern application architectures.

  • Experience with incident response, threat analysis, vulnerability management, and security monitoring.

  • Working knowledge of recognised frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Controls, and MITRE ATT&CK.

  • Ability to communicate technical risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as CISSP, CCSP, GCIH, GCIA, OSCP, Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect, or equivalent.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, CI/CD security, container security, or security orchestration and automation.

  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, KQL, or another relevant scripting and query language.

  • Experience supporting security assessments, audits, penetration tests, or regulatory compliance programmes.

  • Knowledge of data protection, secure software development, and third-party security risk.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capability.

  • Pragmatic, risk-based decision-making with a focus on measurable outcomes.

  • Clear written and verbal communication and strong stakeholder management.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively during security incidents.

  • High standards of integrity, ownership, collaboration, and attention to detail.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
